Judaica in Gelehrtenbibliotheken aus Jerusalem, Amsterdam und Bukarest – mehrheitlich in hebräischer und jiddischer Sprache – sowie aus Einzelerwerbungen der UB Potsdam

Die Universitätsbibliothek Potsdam wurde 1991 mit der Universität Potsdam gegründet. Sie integriert Bestände von Vorgängereinrichtungen wie der Pädagogischen Hochschule Karl Liebknecht am Neuen Palais und der Babelsberger Akademie für Staats- und Rechtswissenschaft der DDR. Größere Bestände mit Verdacht auf NS-Raubgut sind darunter bislang nicht bekannt geworden.
Mit der Etablierung des Studiengangs Jüdische Studien 1994 und des Aufbaus eines entsprechenden Buchbestandes änderte sich die Situation grundlegend, da die UB Potsdam begann, eine eigene Judaica-Sammlung aufzubauen und neben antiquarischen Titeln auch ganze Privatsammlungen ankaufte. Dazu zählen unter anderem die Bibliothek des israelischen Bibliothekars Israel Mehlmann (1900–1989) aus Jerusalem, die des ehemaligen Chefdramaturgen des Jiddischen Theaters Bukarest, Israil Bercovici (1921–1988) oder die Bibliothek des niederländischen Rabbiners Prof. Yehuda Aschkenasy (1924–2011) aus Amsterdam. Alle Bände aus diesen Beständen, die vor 1945 gedruckt wurden, insgesamt 4500, werden im Projekt auf Provenienzmerkmale hin untersucht.
